Colposcopy - A diagnostic tool to determine the cause of abnormalities found on PAP smears or a concern found by your healthcare provider. A colposcopy is a visual examination of the cervix, vagina or vulva (depending on the area of concern) using a high powered microscope. The actual procedure lasts approximately ten to fifteen minutes. For the Colposcopy, you are positioned on the examination table similar to the way your are positioned during your routing PAP smear. Visualization is obtained depending on the area of concern and acetic acid (common white table vinegar) is placed on the area which causes the abnormal cervical cells to dehydrate so the provider can visualize abnormal cells. The colposcope is a magnifies scope that is positioned approximately 30 cm from your vagina. A bright light on the end of the colposcope makes it possible for your provider to visualize the area of concern. Abnormal changes are seen as white areas, abnormal blood vessel or vascular changes. If your provider is able to view the entire abnormal area through the colposcope, a tissue sample or biopsy is taken from the abnormal areas and sent to the pathology lab for further evaluation.

Endometrial Ablation - involves removing the lining of a woman's uterus. EA is an alternative to hysterectomy for women who have excessive menstrual or uterine bleeding. Ablation procedures can prevent the need for 80%-90% of currently performed hysterectomies based on extensive review of the published literature. In contrast to a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), an ablation procedure is performed as an outpatient surgery in the hospital or offered as an in office procedure at Renaissance OB/GYN, with patient's returning home the same day, and without the need for an abdominal or vaginal incision. There is a 90-95% improvement and up to 50% rate of amenorrhea (no further menses). Only women not planning a future pregnancy should have this procedure.

Intra Office Procedures: Hysteroscopy is utilized to obtain direct visualization of uterine abnormalities seen on ultrasound to allow for direct tissue sampling in a comfortable environment. Urodynamics is done in the office to distinguish the source of urinary incontinence in order to determine what the best options are for treatment. Typically 85% of incontinence is curable, either with medication, biofeedback or surgery. Uterine Endometrial ablation is offered in office. Novasure is a 90 second procedure that can be done in the office setting for improving or eliminating heavy menstrual bleeding, thus avoiding major surgery such as hysterectomy. HTA (HydroThermal Uterine Endometrial Ablation is a 10 minute option if a patient is not a candidate for Novasure. These procedures allow the majority of our patients to get back to their normal routine by the next day. |
Ultrasound The GE Voluson 720 Pro Ultrasound has 3D/4D capability and is used for gynecologic and obstetric imaging. We are able to obtain 3D views of the developing baby, allowing families to get a sneak peak before the big birth day!
Hysterosonography is utilized to evaluate the uterine cavity for abnormalities such as fibroids or polyps.
